We're here to help

Setup questions, something not working, or a device that won't come back online — just email us.

Beta products. Ceiling Radar and Flightstrip are in private beta. They are running in a small number of real homes while we finish the work needed for general sale. Things will change, and occasionally something will break — if it does, tell us and we will fix it.

It helps enormously if you include your Device ID — you will find it on the device card in the Callsign Home app — and a short description of what you saw. If the app offers to attach diagnostics, please do; it saves a lot of back and forth.

Frequently asked questions

How do I connect my device to Wi-Fi?

Open the Callsign Home app, choose to add a device, and scan the code shown on the projector's screen or on the Flightstrip panel. The app finds the device, hands it your Wi-Fi details and confirms it has joined. The whole thing normally takes under a minute.

The setup code is short-lived for security. If it expires before you scan it, restart the device to get a fresh one.

Can I set it up without the app?

Yes. Both products have a browser fallback: the device puts up its own temporary Wi-Fi network and shows you the network name and the address to open. Join it from a phone or laptop, open that address, and pick your home network from the list. Stay connected if your phone warns that the network has no internet — that is expected during setup.

If you have more than one device to set up, do them one at a time.

My device is not showing any aircraft.

First check it is online — the device card in the app shows its status. Then check your scan area: if the radius is set small and nothing is flying over you right now, there is genuinely nothing to draw. Widen the radius in the app and see if traffic appears.

Ceiling Radar switches to night sky mode when there is no traffic worth showing, so a sky full of stars means it is working — just quiet.

Where does the flight information come from?

Aircraft positions come from live ADS-B data — the signals aircraft broadcast about their own position — collected by community aircraft-tracking networks. Your device reads that directly over your home Wi-Fi.

Position data on its own does not tell you which airline is flying, where the flight started or what the aircraft is. Our servers add that from flight-schedule and airline datasets and commercial flight-data services. Information can occasionally be incomplete or delayed, and some flights — private, military and some general aviation — carry little or no identifying information at all.

How do updates work?

Automatically. Your device checks in with our servers on a schedule and installs new software when it is available. Updates are cryptographically signed and verified before they are installed, and a failed update rolls back to the previous working version by itself.

Your settings survive updates. Wi-Fi details, device identity, your scan area, your licence and your display preferences are not part of an update.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up, no password and no user account. Your devices are linked to your phone directly when you set them up. See our Privacy Policy for what the devices do send us.

Does it work without an internet connection?

No. Both products need a working internet connection to get live flight data. They keep their settings and Wi-Fi details through an outage and reconnect by themselves once your connection is back, but they are not offline devices.

How do I change where it looks?

In the Callsign Home app, open your device and find the scan area map. Drag the pin to your home and set the radius you want. The change takes effect within about a minute.

How do I move it to a new Wi-Fi network?

Use "Reset Wi-Fi and set up again" in the app. This clears only the network details — your device identity, licence, software version and settings are all kept. The device then shows a setup code again, and you run through setup as you did the first time.

What is Pro?

Pro unlocks following a specific flight — picking one flight and watching it all the way in — plus a wider scan radius on Ceiling Radar. Pro is planned as an in-app subscription handled by Apple and Google. It cannot be purchased yet.

How do I turn the display off?

Ceiling Radar has a remote — use it as you would any projector. Flightstrip has brightness and night-mode settings in the app for quiet hours; to switch it off entirely, unplug it.
